And in this corner...

It actually shouldn't come to fisticuffs or jello-wrestling, but the two primary food providers in this evening's Food Pantry Community Fund Raiser, are Erin Finley and Elyse Richman, two Main Street business women who've had their share of squabbles over the years.

Erin's doing a "Gourmet Buffet," while Elyse is bringing the ice cream.

The event is from 5:30 to 9:00 pm at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center... I think that used to be called the CCD Center... on the Main Road in Quiogue.

It's being run under the joint auspices of the Knights of Columbus and the Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs of the area, and if they can get along, I have every confidence that Erin and Elyse will, as well.

At least for the duration of the evening!

Well, did you enjoy your dinner?

Dinner was wonderful... delicious and ample! Erin put out a good spread... and actually worked hard herself. I kidded her that usually I see her bossing around the people doing the manual labor!

Elyse brought four (4!) different flavors of designer ice cream and lots of toppings so people could build their own sundaes.

If there was a tense moment, it was when five o'clock Mass was over and those congregants all arrived at once! Roy Daleo was rushing around with an electric cattle prod telling the earlier attendees "Eat faster, we need the seats!"

And Jeanne got lucky with her six-for-$5 chances, scoring three off the prize table! If she could do that well at the track we'd be at Yonkers every night it's open!

It was one of the smoothest-run events I have ever seen. The clubs and the ladies all worked together extremely well. Thank you for coming.

It was a fun time, Roy... ya dun good! I trust that the net receipts were what you anticipated. Hope it's an annual event.

It was a great night, and I want to thank all the kids that helped out scooping the ice cream. A great community came out for a great cause. Glad you were able to make it, and it's nice to see a positive post in your blog.

We enjoyed ourselves. And it's nice to see you on the side of something positive.

Dean, it's been an annual event for years -- Rotary, Kiwanis and the Knights work together with each organizating chairing for two years. Anyone following Roy will have a very tough act to follow!
