The Hurt Locker

Films are not a regular feature of OtBB, but the new one at the Hampton Arts is so extraordinary that it demands to be mentioned.

Entitled "The Hurt Locker," it's far and away the best movie I've seen all year!

It's so good that it's garnered an almost unheard of "98%" on Rotten Tomatoes, and is generating early Oscar "buzz" as a possible Best Motion Picture.

For me the 131-minute running time went by like 90 minutes, yet my heart was in my throat every second of the way.

It's a documentary-style look at a three person EOD unit in Iraq, and the knowledge, instilled at the outset, that anyone can die at any minute, is what kept me on the edge of my seat.

Director Kathryn Bigelow, who has made some stinkers in the past, has done a superb job with "The Hurt Locker," and everyone 14-years-old and over should see it!

Second the recommendation, Dean. Exceptional look at a complex conflict and the Warrior ethos. Touched some rarely seen or acknowledged facets of men in combat. Some tough stuff, but if you only see one movie about war, see this one.
