Contrary to a footnote asserting that the late George Irvin was Jewish, OtBB acted on poor information without proper confirmation.

OtBB regrets the error and any distress it caused his family.

Just thinking out of the box on lineage a bit - wasn't Jesus a Jew?

According to reports from the usually unreliable sources, yes.

But then one of the timeless furors has been that "The Jews killed Jesus."

It's all something of a mystery, and a hideous scab has been picked off the heart of Westhampton Beach.

Where's Kinky Friedman when you need him?

"They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore."

Kinky's what I miss most about Imus' morning show in MSNBC.

The Jews didn't kill Jesus. They were in no position to kill anyone. It was the Roman soldiers who killed Jesus.

While no claims are made for any Biblical scholarship, I acknowledge that Roman soldier executed the sentence imposed (apparently reluctantly... cf: Mark, Matthew, Luke and John) by Pilate, but wasn't it agitated by the Jewish hierarchy?

All this is irrelevant to the original comment; it is an accusation which has been leveled for centuries.

Thanks Dean for that link. Here is an excerpt from it. [The official position of the Catholic Church on this matter was clearly stated in Vatican II's Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions (1965): "Even though the Jewish authorities and those who followed their lead pressed for the death of Christ (cf. Jn 19:16), neither all Jews indiscrimately at that time, nor Jews today, can be charged with the crimes committed during his passion.]

Hopefully we are now an enlightened people. In this Village it is not the Jewish people who are persona non grata, it is their Rabbi who seems to be a trouble maker.

I concur... just responded to someone else that very thing!

In a sense, it's too bad that his Eminence, the Very Reverend George Busler isn't still active... he would have made it abundantly clear to Rabbi Scheier from the start: "This Village isn't big enough for two clerical egos... here's your yarmulke, what's your hurry?!"

Doesn't George summer in a condo at Westhampton Landings? Has anyone asked him for his take on all this?

Likely not necessary. The names "George and Joy Busler," listing an address on Mitchell Road, were notable on the petition opposing the eruv handed to the Village on August 8th.
