Sad Event on Seafield

Updated 06/22/2008 - 6:45 am

Tragedy struck Westhampton Beach for the second time in less than 12 hours Saturday morning when firematic apparatus, then ambulances, then the Suffolk County Arson Investigation Squad, the Homicide unit and finally two Crime Scene vans responded to the O'Brien Estate on Seafield Lane just above Sunswyck.

Although no one would speak on the record while police had the entire area sterilized for most of the day, OtBB has learned that the investigation involves a suspected Attempted Murder/Suicide.

Ryszard "Richie" Pawlak, 58, was found hanging in the garage. His wife, Lacyna, 54, is in critical condition with burns and a fractured skull at Stony Brook University Medical Center.

The fire apparently was started in the caretaker's cottage of the 10.37-acre estate on the edge of Quantuck Bay, and which is currently owned by Len and Kathryn Conway, and is listed for sale for $39 million.

Heard the sirens early this morning, saw the road blocked off and I was worried that it could be my old family home.
I want you to know that since I've been working out of town and am totally out of touch, I've come to rely on your blog for the real local news. Keep up the good work!

Bubbles is a nickname from the past... she'd prefer not to be called that now...

Perhaps, but it preserved her anonymity, didn't it?!
