Congressional Investigations...

...have devolved precipitously into exercises in partisan grandstanding.

(i.e., Televised clown shows!)

I grew up watching a number of important Congressional hearings:

This morning I watched as much of the televised House of Representatives hearings on the behavior of the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray in the "hot seats" as Republican and Democratic Representative alternated between harsh and "soft" questioning.

These was nothing to recommend this hearing as either theater or an example of democracy in action.

It was a shameful waste of time.

Inside the beltway, the term "bi-partisan" is non-existant, and is as meaningless as the current concept of civility.

I know of Kefauver and McCarthy but aren't old enough have noticed the hearings. We did have a TV when Ike got nominated.

Having seen what passes for history texts these days as well as the... ah, laxitude of the younger set, I wonder if any of them would recognize names from any of the last four you cite? OK, maybe that the last one was evidence of a vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

My experience with the McCarthy debacle was very simple: I was an "Army brat" and Tailgunner Joe appeared to be on the opposite side of that service so my rooting interest was clear.
