Happier Saturdays are here again

I haven't forgiven cable TCM for dropping their Saturday morning programming of serials and Grade B" (like Chester Morris' "Boston Blackie" or Ann Sothern's "Maisie" from the '30s and '40s.

Imagine my delight at discovering that TCM has resumed their Saturday morning trip into the wayback movieola with Universal's 1938 chapterplay, "Red Barry" starring 1932 Olympic Gold Medalist for 400-meter freestyle swimming, Linden "Buster" Crabbe, the versatle star who also portrayed "Flash Gordon," "Buck Rogers," "Tarzan" and later in life, "Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion."

Unfortuntely, I missed the first two chapters, but after an almost three year hiatus, TCM is once again giving me a reason to look forward to Saturday mornings!

Never seen "Red Barry"... will check it out.

As much as I love old serials and Buster Crabbe, this one from Universal Pictures is pretty dull: low production values, an unimaginative script, mediocre acting... but at least TCM is dipping its toes into chapterplay waters again.
