This sure caught my eye…

...both for its sheer visual appeal (it's beautiful!) and because it immediately raised the timeless question of form versus function.

Laguna Garzón Bridge, Maldonado, Uruguay

The 663-foot Laguna Garzón Bridge, designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, opened in 2015.

The bridge's unique circular road deck, each half of which provides for one-way traffic, spans the Garzón Lagoon and in the words of Viñoly...

"...slow traffic and allows drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists to appreciate panoramic views to one of the most beautiful and pristine coastal landscapes in Uruguay."

Really? Well, it works for me aesthetically and may one day inspire a visit to Maldonado, Uruguay.
