Who Is Covering Up...

...and by whatever's sacred to you, why?

The Westhampton Beach Hurricanes football team, after last Friday evening's impressive 23-8 win over powerful Sayville (5-2) at Hansen (remember that name!) Field.

The reason I know this is due to the not-always-reliable Newsday and a site called Maxpreps, because nowhere has it been reported locally.

(Stop the presses, update OtBB: 27East filed this report this morning.)

That set of circumstances is "'uuuge" (as Bernie Sanders would say) on several accounts:

  1. With a solitary game (at 5-1 Harborfields) left on its schedule, the Hurricanes are undefeated.
  2. Probably the most talented Westhampton Beach running back Jon Meeker two generations past, Dylan Laube is leading all of Suffolk County Long Island in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and average yards (over 11.2) per carry.
  3. Missing five games with a broken hand, Liam McIntyre is back on the field to provide stellar offensive and defensive support.

The prospects for an undefeated season are promising, but a better bet is for Laube to become the first local football player to take home the Hansen Award, presented annually to the outstanding high school football player in Suffolk County since 1960.

(Coach Carl A. Hansen, for whom both the Award and the Field are named, was my Gym teached when I was in grade school at Six Corners.)

If Dylan Laube isn't named this season's Hansen Award Winner, Attorney General Jeff Sessions should appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate the matter!

'Canes are having a great year! Of note: Dylan was a runner-up for the Hansen Award last year as a Junior. Fingers crossed for this year.

I was serious, Kym... if he doesn't win it, there were bribes tendered!
