Aww jeez, not again!

While not quite breaking news, I didn't become aware of the posibility that the Disney conglomerate will be withholding network ABC and the ESPN family of cable sports channel from the Optimum (that's us!) line-up over a carriage dispute and, what else!, rights fees.

This is not the first time our cable provider has had a dispute with a content provided to the detriment of consumers... remember the Cablevision/Fox-News Corp. freeze-out of 2010 that cost subscribers the first two games of the World Serious between the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants.

(Both games were won by eventual champion Giants.)

(Remember also the ABC powerplay which deprived Cablevision's customers of the first 10 minutes of the 2010 Oscars telecast.

Personally, I can do without The Disney Channel (Optimum 31), even ABC (though I'd miss the return of "Designated Survivor"), but no ESPN would seriously disrupt my weekdaily "Pardon the Interruption" ritual.

But then I can always scare up a podcast fix of Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon, so screw the Disney greedheads.

In the final analysis, however, those who will inevitably wind up screwed will be us, either by paying a higher price for the passed along fees, or by doing without services... upwards of eight channels... for which we'll still be paying!

(It's instructive to recall that during the contentious Cablevision/Fox "negotiations" of 2010, for no rebate was ever afforded Cablevision customers for the more than two weeks of denied Fox channels.)

Meanwhile, stand by for "public relations" messages from both Optimum and the Mickey Mousers.
