A good guy wins one...

...and beats the machine while he's at it!

(Even though it's not the Suffolk County GOP behemoth of yore... hey there, Dick Zeidler!... this was an impressive win.)

Oddly, only local gal Lisa Finn, writing in Southampton Patch reported the story fully and accurately...

Larry Zacarese Wins Suffolk County Sheriff GOP Primary Race

...and it wasn't 'til more than 15 hours after the polls closed that the Suffolk County Board of Elections took official note of the Primary results.

And while my sentiment is that once-vaunted Newsday has devolved into little more than a bird cage liner, they got this one startlingly right in an editorial last week:

Suffolk County sheriff primary reeks of the political swamp

"Your [primary] vote is an opportunity to take a stand against party bosses who rig races. Against cross-endorsement scams that rob all voters of real choices. Against backroom deals in which political leaders divide the spoils of victory, rewarding operatives with patronage jobs regardless of merit."

Just so!

The back room deal rigged by those "party bosses" was so blatant that even Newsday felt compelled to call it out, and the rank and file registered Suffolk County GOP voters by a 56% to 44% margin, stuck it to the power brokers.

That's a good feeling!

Zacarese will meet Democratic candidate Stuart P. Besen, a 53-year old lawyer from Northport, is November's General Election.
