"Sweet Tuesday"

It's the day after an uneventful Labor Day, and it's one the late Walter Fritchie called "Sweet Tuesday" because the air smelled sweeter and fresher for the Summer invaders having made a mass exit.

It was said without rancor or opprobrium, more as an observation of the obvious to anyone who ventured down Main Street and could smell the air and feel the difference between yesterday and this morning.

I don't know that it's unique to Westhampton Beach, but I've never experienced the sensation anywhere else, and I've been around a bit.

All hail "Sweet Tuesday!"
