...how the mainstream media lies, the current case in point courtesy of tonight's edition of "CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley"
In the second segment, Pelley introduced correspondent Margaret Brennan from The White House:
"Margaret, there was some confusion today on immigration. The President said one thing and then his Homeland Security Secretary rushed out and said another."
"The President himself today caused some confusion when he suggested using the U.S. Military to expel [illegal immigrants]."
(Clip of President Trump making statement...)
"We're getting really bad dudes out of this country. And at a rate that nobody's ever seen before. And they're the bad ones. And it’s a military operation."
"There will be no use of military forces in immigration!"
Back to Brennan:
"The White House later tried to clarify, saying the President meant 'military operation' as an adjective to describe what they say is an efficient rate of deportation."
("Tried to clarify?" Seems to me that The White House succeeded!)
A distinction without a difference, you may think, but I see it as yet another example of the media's aggressive disinclination to grant President Trump the same latitude they routinely afforded President Obama.
Let's just acknowledge that Donald J. Trump is neither a polished speaker nor a politician, and his utterances are not as precise as your garden variety elected official... and, yeah, sometimes he blathers like a horses arse with a snootful of methedrine.
A wise old political mentor once counseled me, "Never mind what they say, watch what they do!"
Let's just see what he can do.
"Watch what they do." The only thing I am watching is our fraud of a President trying to blame the press for the mounting pressure on his scam. Let's see the tax return, Don, and then we'll talk.
