Disturbing in the extreme...

...is what I learned recently while researching (o'er the Internet, of course) the word "kaiju."

"Kaiju is a Japanese word that means 'strange creature,' but often translated in English as 'monster' or 'giant monster.'"

Okay so far, but when I further sought a list of examples, I learned to my utter disquiet that our "Eighth Wonder of the World," the giant ape untimely wrenched from his home on Skull Island by film-maker cum impresario Carl Denham, King Kong, was included among them!

Now some may feel that America owes a great moral debt to the Japanese for our nuking of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, but allowing them to co-opt Kong is a giant step too far!

Kong was made in America, and needs to for all time remain a part of our culture.

Post Stop cannot open a moment too soon if one is reduced to researching random Japanese words for entertainment.

It wasn't "random" (I do, after all, have an inquisitive mind!), but your point is well-taken.
