Wounded Warrior Project update...

...but I get no pride or sense of vindication in this.

Wounded Warrior Project executives fired amid controversy

"The board of the Wounded Warrior Project, one of the largest veteran support organizations in the country, has fired the nonprofit's chief executive officer and the chief operating officer....

The departure of two top executives, CEO Steven Nardizzi and COO Al Giordano, comes at a time when the wounded veteran-focused organization is awash in controversy amid news reports accusing the group of wasteful spending."

Confirmation came in a release from WWP itself, stating "that certain allegations raised were inaccurate," but acknowledging that "CEO Steve Nardizzi and COO Al Giordano are no longer with WWP."

No to Wounded Warrior Project

A doff of my knit watch cap to CBS News which has aggressively led the journalistic investigation into this previously undisclosed problem.

I feel extremely badly for the actual wounded veterans who didn't receive the assistance that WWP promised them, and dedicated volunteers like local activist Derek Araujo whose band gave annual fund-raising concerts on the Great Lawn to benefit that organization.

I wouldn't want WWP to disappear entirely, but having begun the house-clearning from the top down, the Board of Directors needs to look more closely at what has happened on their watch.
