Positively drooling...

...best describes the mainstream media over an unintentional shooting in Florida this week.

A sampling, starting with the ever predictable CNN:

Pro-gun activist is accidentally shot by 4-year-old son

...then from CBS Chicago...

Pro-Gun Mom Shot In Back By Four-Year-Old Son

The hits just kept on coming, from the Chicago Tribune following The Washington Post:

Pro-gun Florida woman accidentally shot by 4-year-old son

It was so juicy a story that it was exported to France:

US boy, four, accidentally shoots gun-loving mom

Unabashedly Leftist Websites Daily Kos, Salon and Mother Jones could barely contain their rapture.

As a life-long firearms owner I am of the unalterable opinion that there's no such thing as "an accidental shooting," only a negligent discharge.

I have no idea why a loaded handgun was not secured, or how much familiarity the four-year child had with firearms under his mother's supervision, but this event falls squarely on her.

But that's the lesser media focus than the fact that she's a supporter of the Second Amendment, and the not so subtle suggestion that "she was asking for it" because of her pro-gun comments on social Websites.

"The case is generating national and international attention because a Facebook page that appears to be Gilt’s has multiple posts supporting gun rights. In a post hours before the shooting, she said that her 4-year-old son 'gets jacked up to target shoot.'"

In it's deliria to make the ironic "what other result could she expect" point, none seemed interested in the health of the wounded woman.

During her recuperation, I would hope that Jamie Gilt spends her time committing to memory the inviolate Rules of Firearms Safety.

Of course, these same news outlets would never dream of running a headline, "Woman Who Often Dressed Provocatively Raped."

You understand perfectly.

The media would, however, love to point out something like "Gun-lovin' gal assaulted anyway."
