...an uber-weenie, but a misogynist and a sexist?
Last evening on the MLB Network (cable channel 222), during the hour in which the results of the 2016 Major League Baseball Hall of Fame voting were announced, it was revealed that Ken Griffey Jr. was named on 437 of the 440 ballots cast by members of the Baseball Writers' Association of America, a record-setting 99.3%.
It was widely speculated that Griffey Junior was not only a lock for induction in his first year of eligibility, but that the vote would be a unanimous one.
Neither studio host Greg Amsinger nor 2015 inductee John Smoltz questioned the numbers, but Costas immediately started muttering that there females are now in the BWAA and suggested it was for that reason Griffey Junior didn't get 100% of the ballots cast.
(Sportswriter Jon Heyman in a later segment referred to the three who ignored Griffey Junior as "idiots," but without any suggestion of gender.)
It's not the first time that Costas has stepped on his tongue with golf spikes, but his ill-considered editorial comments have never been so demeaning to so many.
