Leaving ESPN in the rearview mirror

...and not a moment too soon!

Whatever feelings I've had about Colin Cowherd over the years I've been aware of the "sports media personality," I can truthfully and accurately be described as neutral on the subject... until he was suspended by ESPN in July.

He had joined the Bristol, Connecticut-based cable sports behemoth in 2003 and had been a regular on both radio and television ever since.

Earlier this year he made the decision, not so secretly, that he was going to play out his contract which ended July 31st, and go elsewhere, presumaby to be reunited with his former ESPN "SportsNation" Producer Jamie Horowitz, now President of Fox Sports National Networks.

Exactly one week before his contract expired, the PC-obsessed wussies at ESPN fired Cowherd, stating:

"Colin Cowherd's comments over the past two days do not reflect the values of ESPN or our employees. Colin will no longer appear on ESPN."

The offending comments:

"A third of [baseball players are] from the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic has not been known in my lifetime as having world-class academic abilities. A lot of those kids come from rough backgrounds and have not had opportunities academically that other kids from other countries have."

Call me Mister Insensitive, but I fail to see the offense!

Cowherd's new radio show, simulcast on Fox Sports 1, launched today at 1:00 pm.

I won't be a regular listener/viewer, but G'luck to him.
