September Village Board Meeting

Brian Sokoloff

A substantive monthly meeting of the Westhampton Beach Village Board this evening, mostly because it contained a l-o-o-o-o-n-g overdue presentation in respect to the eruv litigation by the municipality's special counsel on the matter, attorney Brian Sokoloff.

(It must be stressed that the delay was less on the part of Sokoloff and more on the doorstep of the administration... are ya running with me, Maria?)

The upshot of the matter is two-fold:

  1. It appears that the Village of Westhampton Beach is screwed.
  2. Things were progressing well for the Village until JPOE got involved and ineptly confused the issue enough that the Second Circuit Court of Appeals decided that an erection of an eruv did not violate the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the Constitution.

The important thing is that, after several months of weak "We can't comment on current litigation" non-responses from Mayor Moore, the Village brought in their pro from Carle Place, and he demystified much of the issue.

Attorney Sokoloff spoke clearly and distinctly, and it will be worthwhile for those interested... which should be all Westhampton Beach residents!... to watch the video of his remarks when they are mounted on the municipal Website.

The other "big deal" this evening was the formal hiring of two new full-time police officers, Christopher Kelly and Marc DeMartino, the latter having been a Traffic Control Officer in the Village since 2003.

Christopher Kelly and Marc DeMartino being sworn in my Clerk of the Village Elizabeth Lindtvit

Their base salaries will be $53,957.28, hardly worth the attention of either Newsday or The New York Post.

Good luck to both, and congratulations to the Westhampton Beach Police Department for getting its staffing level closer to where it should be.

1. Jack O'Dwyer said...

Dean: Why wasn't the appearance of Sokoloff on the agenda? Why wasn't the deal with the EEEA on the agenda of Southampton's Council. Failure to provide key information is lying.

The real questions are:
  • Why are you posting to OtBB?
  • Why do you persist in referring to yourself as a "journalist" when you are anything but? You're a public relations professional, an advocate... that's not "journalism!"
You are also demonstrably and willfully a prevaricator, a torturer of the factual, a mountebank and a huckster with neither conscience or credibility.

Go 'way, little man.
