45 Years ago this evening...

...an injured Willis Reed hobbled onto the court of Madison Square Garden to the thunderous approbation of 10,500+ fans, promptly sank his first two shots, and led his New York Knickerbockers to their first ever National Basketball Association championship.

Reed, the Knicks' captain and triple Most Valuable Player (All-Star Game, regular season and play-offs) that 1969-1970 season, was a monumental inspiration to the team and the franchise faithful, but the real hero of that game seven victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, was Walt "Clyde" Frazier.

Game 7 Box Score

In addition to a game high 36 points and seven rebounds, Frazier also assisted on an astounding 19 other baskets.

His extraordinary contributions to the series-clinching win are too ofter over-looked in the emotions of Reed's return.
