Those old-timers knew a thing or two...

...or at least Damon Runyon and the Seattle Seahawks bettors certainly did.

The outcome of Super Bowl XLVIII wasn't in doubt from the first snap of the game when Denver center Manny Ramirez (no, not that Manny Ramirez) decided to snap the football while quarterback Peyton Manning was still engaged with telling the left side of the offense what he expected of them.

"Yes, Peyton, that was the footbal that just flew by you!"

The WTF? look of consternation in Manning's eyes told the story, and somewhere a better image of that instant (seen in this isolated camera replay) will be published for the sake of posterity and countless witty captions.

Only the alertness and quick reflexes of Bronco running back Knowshon Moreno, who spun and pursued the loose ball to cover it in the end zone for a safety, prevented a Seahawks touchdown.

Even so, it was the fastest score in the 48 year history of the Super Bowl, and even at 2-0 only 12 seconds into the game, I kinda knew it wasn't going to be a good culmination to Peyton Manning's magical season.

Congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks and the smart money which followed them.
