What's wrong with this picture?

Saturday, June 22, 2013 – 4:10 pm... 113 Main Street.

Closed up tighter than Joan Rivers' face-lift!

There used to be a very active pub here, 18/7/363¼.

Is it not open at all?

The people who dump their flyers there should be ashamed of themselves. What a mess!

"People who dump their flyers there" are paid to distribute flyers (literature) and periodicals (Dan's Papers, etc.)... they are not required to sign any afidavit that a premises was open when they deposited their material on the doorstep. Is it right? Nope, but that's the way it is.

Maybe the rent's too high? Maybe the other places to eat are happy to have less competition? Who knows. But Crabby is right, the distributors of flyers are a messy lot. All sorts of periodicals disintegrate in the rain. But one can't find an Independent around here at all. Used to be a stack of them at Chase Bank, and sometimes there are a few at Bun 'n Burger, but Waldbaum's doesn't have any anymore. I pick mine up at King Kullen in Hampton Bays.

The people who took the place over two years ago last month, Lenny and Dee, haven't the new kids at the rodeo... it's not like they didn't have a reasonably accurate idea of what to expect, #1, and, #2, they still have their joint open down the street.

Your issue with the East End Independent is a separate matter.

Still closed? Very sad.

It is, I fear, a sign of the economic times... and a poor "marker" for any considering bringing a business to Westhampton Beach.

When "wet use" premises like The Matchbox/Finn McCool's, Chappy's Corner/Dora's, Kara's and Magic's & The Artful Dodger are still vacant headed into Fourth of July, something is seriously wrong.

I don't think the failure of Kerrigan's is as much an indictment of business prospects in Westhampton Beach as it is an indictment of Kerrigan's itself. Under the new ownership the food was simply terrible and people stopped going. Bad food and zero ambiance is a recipe for failure.

On the other hand, look at Margarita Grille. They invested some money sprucing the place up and making better use of their indoor space and suddenly I see more people there than at any time in the past five years.

If Kerrigan's served better food with event a hint of ambiance the place would be filled... just as it always was under the previous ownership.

Well, you can't say the place doesn't have those three prime requisites for a restaurant's success: "location * location * location."

Always wondered what Billy Thorne could have done with Merrick Inn, which Jack Lyons always intended should go to him.

There's still tons of great restaurants and bars in Westhampton Beach, but I love ones downtown the best!

"Tons?!?" You weren't around here in the early '80s, were you?

I think Dee and Lenny just get in over their heads. They tried to operate The Inn at Quogue restaurant, Kerrigan's, DeeAngelo's and FHIR and just don't have the management skills to do it. Firing the significant staff at Magic's (Hurley) didn't help either. They should have just let it run the way it was....

Dunno... never seem'em in action.
