Will weiner-gate haunt him?

Anthony Weiner

That's the question hanging over the head of Congressman resigned-in-disgrace Anthony Weiner as he prepares to announce his candidacy for Mayor of New York City.

He has one big thing going for him... and, no!, it's not that!

He's a New York City Democrat!

As Rob Firriolo noted in an OtBB Comment five years ago:

"Republicans caught in scandals tend to disappear. Democrats caught in scandals tend to rise to the top of the party."

The Weiners at home

When last we saw Weiner, the married seven term Representative was admitting to being a serial digital exhibitionist, having...

"...exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature with about six women over the last three years."

...more proud of his then 46-year-old jockey-clad package than of his position in New York's 9th Congressional District.

One had to wonder how his striking 30-something wife, Huma Abedin, would handle the scandal.

The first thing she did was give birth to their first child, a son, six months to the day following his resignation.

And this week we learned that Ms. Abedin was enmeshed in a burgeoning scandal of her own.

It also provides a possible insight into how she has managed to maintain being Mrs. Weiner.

She is described by The New York Times as a "longtime aide and confidante" to former First Lady, former Senator (D, NY) and current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, and it must be noted that "confidante" usually works both ways.

Ya gotta wonder if Huma and Hillary have ever considered hooking up with Silder Spitzer and launching a specialized consulting firm for wives of philandering Democratic husbands... their patron angel could be Jacqueline Bouvier.

Oh Dean, very cynical indeed. JFK a philander? No way! (way)
