Upon further reflection...

...and a night's solid sleep, I re-read Southampton Press correspondent Erin McKinley's coverage of the public portion of Wednesday evening's Special Meeting, and one quote in particular jumped out at me.

"We had worked on this resolution and discussed it two meetings ago and got some input from everybody. I'd like to see this happen considering that in a couple of days we are going to be with someone new, and we have always had someone to come and train the new person—or assist the new person—and work with them. And that is why I feel it is necessary."

That was uttered, probably with a straight face, by Deputy Mayor Hank Tucker.

There's an old gag about how to tell if a politican is lying... "his lips are moving!" [rim-shot!]

It's elected officials like Tucker who keep that gag current.

Item: How much "discussion" did you have before walking the resolution on, Hank, with whom and when? It wasn't in an open meeting as required by Law.

Item: What are you talking about with "we have always had someone to come and train the new person—or assist the new person—and work with them," Hank? You've been here six years, with one (1!) transition. On what basis do you make such an assertion?

Item: What is the real reason why you "feel it is necessary" to "gift" Mrs. McGinnis with a $60/hour job?

Does it have anything to do with the fact that she "switched sides" last Fall and has been in your ear about how the two of you can bring Mayor Conrad Teller down by concocting some sort of misfeasance/malfeasance scenario?

In the first season of Cable FX's excellent "Justified," Marshal Raylan Givens' ex-wife Winona shares a little insight with him:

"...honestly, you're the angriest man I have ever known."

Hank, Kathy McGinnis is one of the angriest women you've ever known, and if you haven't figured that out, just watch what happens when you turn her loose in Village Hall in her present frame of mind.

And remember, you are going to own this move.
