Emmy schmemy!

There's lotsa high(er) quality fare on the small screen this evening... cf: "Breaking Bad," even re-runs of "Boardwalk Empire," etc., so this is one household which will not be tuning in the "63rd Primetime Emmy Awards" at 8:00 pm.

Even if it was telecast in the middle of "Death Valley," which is how the television industry characterizes Saturday evening prime time, we'd be watching something else!

Given that the awards shows... the Grammys, Oscars, Tonys, Golden Globes, Critics' Choice, ad nauseum... are all self-congratulatory stroke jobs, I have refused to take the Emmys seriously, much less watch their telecast, since the high brow-sounding Academy of Television Arts and Sciences could in its black corporate heart only find its way to nominating indisputably the best TV series ever, HBO's "The Wire" for two (2!) awards.

Yes, they were the right ones, "Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series" for single episodes in 2005 and 2008, but lost, respectively to episodes of "House M.D." and "Mad Men."

Not that those two shows were unworthy... though my medical professional wife holds some very strong, less-than-lauditory views of the former... it's simply that "The Wire" is so far above anything seen on the small screen before or since, that the entire Emmy process needs to be exposed as the fraud it is!

So, yeah! We're boycotting Emmy!
