When I see something like this...

...there's just no way I can bite my tongue. From a Chicago Sun-Times story of last week:

Al Capone's handgun sells for $110,000 at auction

This is peanuts compared to what Jack Ruby's snub-nosed revolver went for several years ago, but what caught my eye was the accompanying text:

Al Capone's Colt's Police Positive

"The gun was sold with a 1976 letter from Capone’s sister-in-law, Madeleine Capone Morichetti, attesting that it 'previously belonged to and was only used by Al Capone while he was alive.'"

Well, if it had been afterward, then you really would have had something!

Oh no, the language pedant strikes again.

It will, I fear, be always thus.

Fun Guns

I had dinner with a gentleman named Sonny Grosso. Sonny had many claims to fame in life but the one relevant to guns is that he had a bit part in "The Godfather." Given that he was also a real cop he offered up his gun for the famous scene where Michael finds the hidden gun behind the toilet. To this day he still carries it.

I did not know that, #1 (it was in the old-fashioned toilet tank as I recollect, not behind it), and, #2, do you have any idea who Salvatore "Sonny" Grosso actually is? (Hint: think Roy Scheider.)

And, O yeah!, "Fun Guns?" I think there's a difference between Grosso's old-style revolver and Capone's gun.
