...that's you, Hank Tucker, for refusing to participate in a campaign debate.

Last week when The Southampton Press contacted you about the possibility, you didn't respond, perhaps because your running mate, Pat Dibenedetto, was out of town.

Fine! That was right and proper.

Now today you're refusing to participate because it won't be sponsored by The League of Women Voters of the Hamptons.

Why is that, Hank?

Is it really because LOWVH won't be hosting, and because The Press wouldn't endorse your run for Mayor last year?

Or is it that you don't want to be "on the record" in front of more than one or two people at a time when you're being asked tough questions?

Questions like:

Why have you consistently stone-walled the Police disciplinary hearings for the past 19 months, during which time nearly $400,000 of Village Taxpayers' money has been wasted paying salaries and benefits for suspended Police Officers?

Why did you even agree to read, never mind vote to pass, the four illegal resolutions at the March 2010 Village Board meeting?

(From the report of that meeting:

"The source of those resolutions remains undisclosed... Mr. Tucker refused to identify the the author(s) nor would he explain why he wouldn't identify same."

When that source was subsequently revealed to be Law Clerk Tom Moore, he resigned from his seat on the Zoning Board of Appeals.)

For what reason did you withhold Mr. Moore's letter of resignation for three weeks, Hank, needlessly leaving the ZBA short-handed during that period?

These are some of the questions you would have faced in an open debate, Hank... and probably the real reason you ducked a debate for the third time in four opportunities.

You're a pretty fair country politician, Hank, telling people one-on-one what you think they want to hear.

But it's different having to explain yourself to a group of voters all at once, and your unwillingness to do so is gutless!

Disclosure: I Dean Speir, am a candidate for Village Trustee in the June 17th elections. I'm on Row B.

Is at least the lady Pat (Who?) going to agree to debate you? Funny - the years you run, the opposition is afraid to debate!

I really don't know much about her, but I'm in an "Anybody but Hank" frame of mind.

One of the sitting Trustees told me and some friends that you attend most Village meetings, and have for decades.

In comparison, what would you estimate the Lightning Party members are averaging in Village meeting attendance? I heard Hank was tag teaming attendance in his salaried position with superb benefits. Is that correct? And in the course of the last full year (or twenty) has the mysterious Ms. Db been as faithful as you in attending the municipal meetings?

Sorry to go on and on, but those who don't like you (but clearly RESPECT you) have been dealing some low blow blather over the fence.

Yes, you do go on!

I don't know much about Pat either, except that she moved here relatively recently, and came on the Planning Board two years ago under the tutelage of Ralph Neubauer, likely the sleaziest Chairman of any Board in the history of this Village, and fought like a demon to have him reappointed. I don't think she understood the actual role of the Planning Board.

So... Hank wants us to vote for him but will not partake in a debate. Why not, Hank? What are you afraid of? Why do you want to hide?

Aren't the voters entitled to hear what you have to say concerning topics important to our Village?

You must feel the voters do not deserve that.

Just why are you running for a Board Position, Hank?

If you will not debate, then please tell me why anyone should vote for you?

Actually Hank, just why exactly are you a Candidate, if you will not face the voters?

I think I addressed most of the possibilities why he declined the opportunity to engage in debate.... there might be others.

Hey Hank, just ignore The Southampton Press. You have ignored everything else, so why not add them to the list!

He was successful twice when he refused to debate... the one time he agreed (last year), he lost.

And what about Pat D? Is she also refusing to participate in a debate?

Dunno... this is Hank's call, and as his running mate, they're joined at the hip.

Let's get back to the basics: you attend meetings. You have served honorably and well in municipal positions for over 20 years -- please advise your readership, dear!

This is no time for false modesty!

[sigh] yes, dear!

It's twoo, it's twoo! I did all that, and more!

There, I affirmed it! (But is it "false modesty" if I really am self-effacing by nature?

Crabby said something about "those who don't like you (but clearly respect you) have been dealing some low blow blather over the fence."

So let's see... in their malicious and false anonymous letter, they lied, lied, lied and lied.

I wonder what lying crap they are spewing now!

Of course it was "malicious and false!" If it hadn't've been, it wouldn't have had been "anonymous!"

Probably won't ever know... which is why there should have been a debate!

Pat Dibenedetto should have wanted one as well... unless... like Hank... she doesn't like to speak her mind to more than one or two people at a time.
