The Chinese just might be...

...onto something in their dealing with Governmental corruption.

Former deputy mayor sentenced to death for corruption

"Xu Maiyong, 52, was convicted of bribery, embezzlement, and abuse of power at the Intermediate People's Court of Ningbo City, Zhejiang."

Particularly galling, we also learn:

"The former deputy mayor of the provincial capital was also stripped of his political rights for life and all of his personal property was confiscated...."

Not only can he not vote during whatever time he has left, but they took his "stuff" too... no one, especially guys, likes their "stuff" taken!

On the brighter side for the ex-Deputy Mayor, the sentence has been suspended for two years, presumably to allow Maiyong to reflect upon his misdeeds.

Under the heading of "A Faint Glimpse into the Obvious," The Washington Post reports:

"The sentence appeared intended to signal the party’s resolve in combatting widespread corruption."

Do ya think?

That's one way to keep down the recidivism rate.

Sure would... and might even cause some uneasiness with a certain other "former deputy mayor" of our acquaintance.
