Sign caper caught on camera

Updated 05/18/2011 – 03:56 pm

...or as one OtBB commenter suggested on Sunday, "Let's go to the videotape."

From the time stamps of the surveillance "snapshots," the caper actually began 9:00 pm Saturday evening, in full view of passers-by and one of Beach Bakery's customers who thoughtfully left his headlights on to provide illumination for the three perpetrators.

By 9:20 pm it was all over... they had their sign and had made their escape through the pub's darkened patio and out into the South Main Street parking lot.

At 9:25 pm, the first call to the Village Police came in from a Main Street business which had been alerted by an anonymous passing female who didn't want "to get involved."

Surveillance images from a camera mounted high across the street (seen here) and another, of better quality from an undisclosed location, provided police with enough information to bring a speedy resolution to the incident.

Interesting in that of all the vehicular and foot traffic during a 20-minute period in the middle of a Saturday evening, no one noticed, or observed and thought to alert authorities, that three people were scaling a building and absconding with a good-sized sign.
