Career-limiting utterances

Desk clerk Henry Karim at the Budget Host East End (née Best Western) at the Riverside Traffic Circle, shot from the lip without considering the ramifications of his words.

In Laura Cooper's 27East report on the apparent homicide discovered Thursday at the motel, Mr. Karim is quoted as saying:

"...Riverhead is not safe. This is downtown Riverhead. Walk through town—it's not safe."

He added that "the hotel{sic} often plays host to homeless guests."

"Homeless?" Did you consider the distinct possibility of being "jobless," Henry?

Douglas Rico, arrestee

And furthermore...

Yesterday Suffolk County Homicide detectives arrested Douglas Rico, 44, of no known address, and charged him with second degree manslaughter in connection with the death of victim Henrietta Sholl, 53.

Karim should have stuck with the classics and uttered, "Mother of Mercy! Is this the end of Rico?"

Want another classic quote? "Oh, Rob!"

Downtown Riverhead still perplexes me. A place of great potential that never seems to rise to that higher level.

It would almost seem that they should turn everything inside-out and have all the commerce facing the River rather than Route 25.
