Misleading headline of the week...

...comes from The Riverhead News-Review.

Aquebogue man escapes gun shots at fatal burglary scene

I understand that they were intent on playing up the local angle, but really!

That the fellow was not some hapless schlub who was in the wrong place at the wrong time is revealed in the lead paragraph:

"An Aquebogue man who had allegedly broken into an East Islip house Wednesday escaped before the resident shot at his two accomplices, killing one of them and leaving the other in critical condition...."

Puts a little different spin on things, doesn't it?

When I first saw that, I was reminded of the early '70s parody in the style of The Irish Echo with a series of headlines:

God saves Teddy Kennedy
as Catholic girl drowns

Senator prays for nine hours before
leaving Chappaquiddick scene

Pope blasts Italian builder of faulty bridge

(It went on, but readers get the idea.)

Gotta wonder who the Aquebogue guy's family knows at The News-Review.
