Not a threat on the play-offs

...than this evening's game at Madison Square Garden between the New Yorks and the Indiana Pacers for why the Knicks gave up w-a-a-a-y too much talent to acquire not-so-superstar Carmelo Anthony.

The 28-38 visitors from Indianapolis arrived on a six-game losing streak and without their leading scorer, and were in control of the game from the middle of the opening quarter.

Amar'e Stoudemire scored 28 points in 34 minutes, while "Melo" added 25 in 36 minutes as both frontcourt men were in foul trouble throughout.

The only other New Yorker in double figures was another forward, Shawne Williams, who put up 13 in 30 minutes.

The Knicks backcourt, so full of promise five weeks ago, scored 23 points on a combined 8-34 shooting, with a total of 8 assists!

Both Stoudemire and Anthony can create their own shots, but Melo's poor shooting since arriving last month, is an indication that this is not a balanced squad... or as coaches like to put it, one that "hasn't 'jelled' yet."

As constituted, this in not anywhere near a contending team... they'll probably make the play-offs, but never see the second round.
