My St. Valentine's Day prediction...

...for Martyn (the) Meek who inherited my one and only daughter, is a long and happy union!

Pegs is again globe-trotting with the singing Clarkson girl while her husband, and just about everyone else in British Columbia, is caught up in all things Olympic.

This is how my Canadian-born son-in-law dressed their chalet in Whistler, which area is currently hosting some of the Alpine events, for the occasion:

Pegs' and Martyn's home in Whistler, BC

Nicely done, Martyn... you rock!

(The man has good instincts!)

I, on the other hand, need a new and improved internal calendar.

The moment my wife had cleared the house Friday morning to take Puppy-Boy Rosco off to the vet for his shots, I raced down to Lynne's for a box of candy and some Saint Valentine's Day cards, pleased that this was one occasion I wasn't going to flub.

When I shared my satisfaction with Lynne Cuthbert Jones, she was gentle... but direct:

"Valentine's Day isn't 'til Sunday, you goof!"

(Ack! Then what was that day?)

It was, of course, the all-but-forgotten Lincoln's Birthday.

I made my purchases, returned home to stash them 'til this morning, put on my Aaron Copland, and set about researching the salutary effects of Ginkgo Biloba.

Whistler-Blackcomb is my favorite ski resort, and Vancouver is a marvelous city. What a great venue for the Winter Olympics!
