My spirits soar this date...

Sassy

...as it is the fourth birthday of Sassy (short for Sasquatch, for her youthful predilection for stepping on my feet), our 80-pound pure-bred Rottweiler and a real sweetie pie.

But at the same time my heart is heavy for the fiery deaths of 76 religious practitioners of an offshoot of Seventh-day Adventism near Waco, Texas, and the darkest malignant actions of Timothy McVeigh in Oklahoma City.

There are other reasons to remember April 19th... 1775 and 1943 chief among them.

April Village Board Meeting

Mayor Maria Moore called the monthly meeting of a full complement of the Westhampton Beach Board of Trustees to order at 5:06 pm, a trifle tardy owing to a technical issue with the video recording equipment.

The Board, having reviewed the Tentative Budget, opened a public hearing on the matter. Only one member of the audience, Stillwaters resident Sabina Trager raised any questions.

(Mrs. Trager, having already picked up a nominating petition, is a potential Board candidate in June's Vil­lage election... who didn't see that coming?) More...

From People Magazine, and it's not an April Fool's gag:

Arnold Schwarzenegger's First Words After Open Heart Surgery: ‘I’m back’

"His first words after waking up were 'I'm back,' his representative Daniel Ketchell tweeted on Friday...."

Clearly that's a pre-planned press agent's invention, which the 44-year old celebrity news magazine had to have known, yet they publish this tripe with a straight face!
