I did not know that...

...Westhampton, on the books of the Federal Communications Commission, at least, is the "City of License" for a Spanish-language FM (98.5 MHz) radio station, call sign WBON; it began broadcasting Noon, September 20, 2007.

And while that comes as a total surprise to me, I suspect that it is well known to those gathering mornings along the fence on Montauk Highway behind the Westhampton 7-Eleven store.

Today brought alarming news for dog owners who've embraced Blue Buffalo as the healthiest choice for their household best friends:

So Long, Michael...

My initial reaction was one of shock, though not surprise.

Not that unusual in that part of the world

This news report caught my attention this morning:

Cruise ship on which big brawl broke out docks in Melbourne

"A cruise ship that had to have 23 members of an unruly family booted off after a mass brawl has docked in Melbourne. Passengers described three days of mayhem during what was supposed to be an ideal holiday through the South Pacific."

I think George Takei said it best: "O my!" More...

FBI taking a helluva hit this year...

...and the year isn't even eight weeks old yet!

First it's the intimate lovers' exchanges between Bureau Special Agent Peter Strzok and Lisa Page... 50,000 of them so far... that called into question the legitimacy of the FBI's investigation into then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's unsecured E-mail server, as well as Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation of possible Trump Presidential campaign collusion with Russian intelligence agencies. So now they've settled the $$$ dispute...

...between Altice/Optimum (née "#$@&%*! Cablevision!") and the Starz cable channels that's been raging simmering since the end of 2017.

(cf: "Happy New Year from Optimum...")

This arrived in an E-mail this very morning:

Great news! Starz and StarzEncore are returning to Optimum!

"We fought hard on your behalf to reach a fair agreement with Starz so you can enjoy the drama, action and excitement from Starz and Starz Encore on your TV lineup at a great value."

(Uh oh! Better get out the lube!) More...

'Cause we both missed it...

Jeanne and the commemorative stone

...a lovely inscribed commemorative stone for Jeanne's decorative backyard garden, this might help!

Happy Saint Valentine's Day, my love!

The Sound of the Other Shoe Dropping...

My dear ol' Mom was fond of quoting Geoffrey Chaucer's proverb: "All good things must come to an end."

And it has, for now at least, to the corner of Library and Main which was so bad an eyesore 22 years ago that the Wilenski Administration popped for a stockade fence and some landscaping to shield the the parcel from the gaze of passers-by. More...

Here's an area of the swamp...

...a particulalrly feculent area, that desperately needs draining: Medicare!

(United States Medicare, a single-payer, national social insurance program, is administered by the U.S. Government's Social Security Administration.)

In a television commercial that probably would never air in prime time, being relegated to "overnight" time slots, the first image shown is the familiar red and blue on white Medicare Health Insurance card while a voice over asks if anyone carrying such a card is suffering from "chronic back pain or knee pain?" New Rule for NFL Broadcasts

Cris Collinsworth

Eight year National Foorball League veteran receiver Cris Collinsworth last caught a pass in 1988, but has been in the broadcast booth as a "color man," variously on NBC and Fox, ever since.

I'm not sure exactly when he passed his prime, but by the end of the first quarter of this evening's Super Bowl LII telecast, it was apparent that Collinsworth has devolved into a 59-year old gas bag who not only doesn't complement play-by-play announcer Al Michaels, more often than not he gets underfoot. Tarnation! 'Damnation' has been axed!

Cable USA (Optimum Channel 38) has dropped, after just one season, it's '30s period drama "Damnation." Drat!

'Damnation' Canceled at USA Network

"With live-plus-3 returns, Damnation bowed to a not-insignificant 1.4 million viewers. Subsequent episodes, however, dropped dramatically."

Double drat! I really liked that show! More...
