Uh oh, here comes Joe Pesapane again!

And this time's kinda funny since his attorney, one Eric Sanders, Esq. whose specialty appears to be Civil Rights, for all intents and purposes, seems to be the sort who huffs and puffs outside the gates and hopes that his case never gets past the proverbials "courthouse steps."

The last lawyer who tried to pull this tactic on the Village of Westhampton Beach, Andrew J. Campanelli, not only had his case tossed out on motion (itself unusual) but dismissed with something bordering on prejudice. More...

I won't say 'It's all good,' but...

...it sure seems to be getting better based on Friday's New York Times' Real Estate section feature by Marcelle Sussman Fischler entitled The Plain-Jane Hamptons.

"'Westhampton Beach offers us everything we could possibly want in a vacation home. Frankly, we are not sure what the east offers that the west doesn't,' Mr. Bagliebter said. 'The beaches here are as nice as the beaches on the other side of the canal.'" More...

A chuckle amidst the sadness

Long-time WCBS-TV News Anchor Dana Tyler on this evening's telecast was remembering actor Gene Wilder (1933-2016), lovingly if inexactly:

"He was wonderful in movies like 'Blazing Sandals'{sic}."

Okay, she got the essence of Wilde's appeal if not the title.

My personal favorite of his is 1970's "Quackser Fortune Has a Cousin in the Bronx."

'A Friend of Ours'

As is my weekly wont, Sunday morning is spent watching the hour-long current events programs on the ABC and CBS networks.

(Due to the limitations of my Optimum-provided DVR device, I watch the Fox version this afternoon.)

What struck me after listening to much discussion about the recently released E-mails from Hillary Clinton's private server, was the phrase "He is a friend of ours" in memos describing someone requesting access with the then Secretary of State. More...

Report on the News: 08/28/2016

Despite my increasing antipathy for the less-than-neutral "CBS Evening News" and the subsequent nighty comparison viewing of "ABC World News..."

(Cablevision's DVR boxes are essential in this particular endeavor!)

...the David Muir-hosted telecast just now revealed a clear bias in its reportage of a current news story regarding Maine's Republican Governor Paul LePage. More...

The best kept dining experience secret...

... (to gringos, at least) in Westhampton Beach is at 136 Old Riverhead Road, just over the Long Island Rail Road tracks at the long-time site of the Mexican Hut.

(Actually run by a family of expatriate Cubans, political pragmatism dictated the choice of business name.)

Currently carrying the name Antojitos Chapin and advising that it is a "restaurante," it opened at the start of the Summer and seats about 20 persons. More...

Orthodox entitlement or

It was a ticketing rich environment just about anywhere within walking distance of Hampton Synagogue this morning as hundreds of mourners (and myrid media) showed up for services of a couple killed in Sunday's terrible motor vehicle accident on the Long Island Expressway in Manorville. More...

The type of District Attorney...

Stephen Hill

...New York City should always have would be "Adam Schiff," Manhattan's top prosecutor for the first ten seasons of NBC's 20-year stalwart "ripped from today's headlines" prime time drama, "Law & Order."

Actor Stephen Hill (née Solomon Krakovsky), who portrayed the droll, politically pragmatic character, died today in Rockland County's Hasidic hamlet of Monsey, age 94. More...

The other shoe falls for Lochte

While the CEO of the United States Olympic Committee will only promise unspecified "Further action to come for Ryan Lochte, teammates," the marketplace has spoken quickly and without equivocation:

Ryan Lochte loses all four commercial sponsors after Rio Olympics incident

"Lochte's four commercial sponsors... Ralph Lauren, Speedo, Airweave and Gentle Hair Removal... dropped the 12-time Olympic medal winner on Monday in response to the incident eight days ago in which he falsely claimed he and three teammates had been held up by armed robbers at a Rio de Janeiro gas station."

In the space of 36 hours, the phrase "over-exagerated" has entered our lexicon as a euphenism for "I lied!" How soon before Hillary Clinton adopts it for her own use?

The 2016 Olympic games in Rio...

...were ill-advised in the first place, given the inability of Brazil to properly prepare its host city for the grobal event.

(That none of the athletes participating haven't become gravely ill due to the extraordinary polution of the water there is something of a miracle!)

While the waters of Baía de Guanabara are still befouled and the residents of the crime-ridden favelas would consider Poverty Level a major step up, Rio de Janeiro somehow pulled it off. More...

August Trustees Work Session

Breaking News: the Asphalt Plant is closed forever.

Village Attorney Anthony Pasca, at the very end of the monthly Work Session, quietly revealed that the bitter 16 year legal battle between the Village of Westhampton Beach and Suffolk Asphalt Supply, Inc. is over, and that plaintiffs tossed in the towel on the court house steps.

This is a major victory for the Village and residents of Rogers Avenue and the Bridle Path subdivision that began during the Strebel administration with the passage of Local Law 10 of 2000 which provided for the change of zone affecting the eight-nine acres on which the facility was situate, and the cessation of operations there after an amortization period of five years. Toward better reportage

Gavin Keblish

An item on 27East this afternoon:

Dead Body Discovered Near Montauk Train Station; East Hampton Town Police Say No Foul Play Suspected

"East Hampton Town Police ... identified the body as Gavin Keblish, 23, of Eastport, and confirmed the body was deceased."

An alternative confirmation would have been?

Sweet Home, Sunset Avenue...

...Lord, we're coming home to you. (With appropriate apologies to Lynard Skynyrd.)

This came in the mail this week from Yaphank:

Board of Elections mailing card

Not that the Board of Elections wasn't grateful for the use of Large Group Instruction Room at the Westhampton Beach High School these past three years, but the Fire House is not only more convenient for most, but it's right next door to Best Market with its wonderful deli-bakery-sushi sections.

Cut the crap and call it what it is!

The event:

Woman fatally shot by Florida officer role-playing as 'bad guy' during citizen police academy

"Punta Gorda Police Chief Tom Lewis called the shooting a 'horrible accident....'"

With firearms there are no "accidents," only criminal negligence! It's why we have "The Rules."

Chief Lewis should be fired, and the officer, Lee Coel, who fired the shot should be prosecuted for manslaughter.

The use of the term 'rigged' by...

...by Donald J. Trump sends a very distressing signal to anyone supporting the Republican Presidential Candidate.

Trump tells supporters the election might be 'rigged'

"'I'm afraid the election is going to be rigged, I have to be honest,' the Republican nominee told a town hall crowd in Columbus, Ohio. He added that he has been hearing 'more and more' that the election may not be contested fairly, though he did not elaborate further."

Clearly the candidate forsees his own loss at the polls and his insufferable ego is setting up an "explanation." More...

August Village Board Meeting

Deputy Mayor Ralph Urban, acting in the absent (bereavement) Maria Moore's stead, called the meeting to order at 7:04 or 7:08, depending on which chronometer was to be trusted.

(By unanimous consent, we went with what our wrists displayed rather than that routinely suspect meeting room wall clock.)

After getting through the Pledge of Allegiance without untoward event, an application for a Change of Use of the former Petty Hardware property at 196/208 Montauk Highway was referred to Planning Board review. More...

Why am I not surprised?

Inexorably, "the truth will out."

(William Shakespeare: "The Merchant of Venice.")

Now we know more about "Gold Star father" Khizr Khan, and there can be no question that GOP candidate Donald Trump was set-up by the DNC.

The Khan gambit succeeds...

...beyond the Clinton Campaign's wildest expectations, and after Khizr and Ghazala Khan took to the stage of the Democratic National Convention, the skids were greased for Donald Trump.

With wife Ghazala in her shayla silently by his side, Khizr stood on the grave of their slain son Humayun Khan and called out Trump provocatively and deliberately.

And as the universe knows at this point, the Republican presidential candidate can no more stay stay silent More...

Sassy eschews her comfy bed...

Cooling down at night

...in favor of linoleum and porcelain. It's not as soft and comfy, but it's a whole lot cooler!

Sassy herself

When those dogs days of August settled in a little early this Summer, she knew just what to do: quietly pad into the bathroon, clear away the bath mats and let the natural cooling process kick in. Smart dog! Happy dog!
