You want justice and equality?

Bree Newsome climbing flagpole

Anyone who is sincere about wanting it, can start right here with 30-year-old Bree Newsome... she's no kid... who Saturday took it upon herself to scale the flagpole at the South Carolina Statehouse and tear down the Confederate flag which flew there.

(She certainly knew what she was doing... it was clearly a premeditated act since she brought with her what the news reports are terming "climbing gear.") More...

A recent entry to the the Moore/Palmer Agitprop blogspot recalled to mind a line uttered by the "Doc Holliday" character in 1993's wonderful "Tombstone:"

"It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds."

And so it is with the Moores... husband Tom actually writes the blog, sometimes in the Mayor's "voice..." in last Friday's item, captioned: More...

It's simply a gang-rape of rights...

Rebel Flag

...led by the main stream media intent on becoming a part of the story instead of just reporting the story!

We've seen it too many times, most prominently in recent years with the Trayvon Martin shooting in 2012.

It is visited upon us once again in the aftermath of the murder of nine black church-goers in what police characterized as a racial attack at the 199-year-old Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina last week. More...

Score another for the Bambiists

Ripped from Friday morning's headlines on 27East:

Two East Hampton Teens Injured After Motorcycle Strikes Deer

"Two people were injured Friday morning when a motorcycle hit a deer on Hog Creek Road, north of Dogwood Drive in East Hampton, according to East Hampton Town Police."

Additionally, East Hampton Police Department Captain Chris Anderson noted "There was no indication of intoxication by the [motorcycle's] operator."

Yup, the deer are everyone's friends.

Patrick Macnee (1922-2015)

Patrick Macnee as "John Steed"

The British-born actor with more than 165 screen credits starting in the late '30s but who will be best remembered for the role of "John Steed" in 161 episodes of the highly stylized '60s television U.K. spy series, "The Avengers," has died quietly at his home in Rancho Mirage, California as a naturalized American citizen of 56-year duration.

When the series finally reached the United States in 1966 when Network ABC coughed up the unheard of sum of $2 million for 25 black & white episodes co-starring the stunning Diana Rigg in a black leather fighting suit, it was the character of "Mrs. Peel" which commanded the bulk of our attention... except with my wife at the time, and others, who took note of Macnee impeccably attired in Savile Row suits and an ominipresent bowler and "brolly." The pressing question of the day...

Lindsay Czarniak

...was posed at 5:55pm during a 15 second promotional announcement for the 6:00 pm SportsCenter by anchor-chick Lindsay Czarniak:

"Has Pete Rose destroyed any chance of having his baseball ban overturned?"

Yes, you fatuous twit! He did that over a quarter of a century ago when the late Commissioner of Baseball A. Bartlett Giamatti authorized the Dowd Report, studied its findings and instituted Rose's lifetime More...

An ancient parable...

...as translated by Thomas Merton in "The Way of Chuang Tzu," the Chinese philosopher (369bce-286bce) and disciple of Lao-Tze who lived two Centuries before him.

Chi Hsing Tzu was a trainer of fighting cocks for King Hsuan. He was training a fine bird. The king kept asking if the bird was ready for combat. More...

2015 Village Election Results

The polls closed at 9:00 pm and with a comparatively low turnout (aided by the curious lack of notice on the Village's Website), the electorate has spoken... decisively 'though not particularly loudly.

(The Moore blogspot, however, did take notice.)

Semi-official results of the 2015
Village of Westhampton Beach Election
Office Candidate Row Votes
Trustee Patricia DiBenedetto A 161
Trustee Hank Tucker A 142
Trustee Rob Rubio B 240
Trustee Bryan Tymann B 248

In an uncontested race, Robert A. Kelly Jr. was returned to the office of Village Justice for a sixth term with a total of 209 votes of the 404 cast this day. More...

Holding our nose...

...and marking our ballot, 'cause not a single one of today's candidates for Westhampton Beach Village Trustee has offered a compelling reason as to why a ballot should be cast in their favor.

There are, however, some compelling reasons why to not vote for some of the candidates, so we're actually talking about a balancing test at Noon today at Village Hall. More...

There's an old gag about Chicago...

...being a city "where the dead vote," and I was reminded of this when I read Kyle Campbell's story about a remarkable initiative proposed by Westhampton Beach Mayor Maria Moore.

Westhampton Beach Village Could Eliminate Lifetime Benefits For Former Elected Officials

This was the part that caught my eye: More...

Lousy choices this year!

Tough decisions to be made Friday, and the suspicion is that inertia, there being few clear-cut choices to be made, will carry the day... i.e., voters will stay away in droves.

So the toughest decision will be whether to even make the trip to Six Corners to cast a ballot.

And this responsibility falls squarely on the heads of the four candidates! More...

The Village's Election Campaign just went...

Click for full size

...from zero-to-60mph in like nothing flat this morning with the release of an anonymous nasty-gram similar to that which was deployed against my candidacy in 2011.

Let's dispense with one aspect of the mailing right now: the sender(s) is/are a form of gutless lowlife... and, sadly, all too typical of the way that things have been done in Westhampton Beach since well before my eight decades here. More...

Yeah, what Ygritte said!

"You know nothing, Jon Snow!"
    – Ygritte, the red-headed Wildling

Owen Teale as "Alliser Thorne"

Well, Jon Snow. the bastard son of Ned Stark may not have known anything, but those dedicated "Game Of Thrones" watchers knew that the John Blaney-lookin' Alliser Thorne had it in for the young man since he was posted to serve in the Night's Watch in Season One.

It was a mutiny by his Night's Watch brothers that More...

It's no longer a surprise...

...to those who pay attention to such things, but one who does pay attention had a telling response to this morning's news report:

4-year-old drowns in backyard pool in Shirley

The sharp observation?

"They seem to sacrifice a kid to a backyard pool once a year in the Mastic-Shirley area!" More...

Friday and the Rabbi stumbles...

...all over himself in 'splaining his actions and inactions, and blames, among other things:

  1. The Rabbinical Council of America for reneging "on an arrangement he had reached with them in its decision to expel him due to an extramarital affair he had with a congregant."
  2. His self-proclaimed "bi-polar disorder."
  3. "A postal error that had led to the rabbinic association’s decision to kick him out." More...

Christopher Lee (1922-2015)

I had come to accept that Sir Christopher Frank Carandini Lee was going to go on forever... in a film career that spanned eight (8!) decades, he was, as the late Poet Laureate Karl Shapiro said of author Henry Miller, "a Patagonian," not just in physical stature (a towering 6'5") but in screen presence.

And if neither of those commanded one's attention, the voice surely did!

(Two dozen of his more than 280 screen credits were for his voice alone!) More...

The Rabbi in the news again...

...and if the Forward (neé The Jewish Daily Forward) is to be trusted, the Rabbinical Council of America has unceremoniously scoured Hampton Synagogue founding Rabbi Marc Schnier from its select ranks.

Marc Schneier Booted From Rabbinic Group Over Affair

"Rabbi Marc Schneier, the spiritual leader of a tony congregation in the Hamptons, has been expelled from the Rabbinical Council of America, the Forward has learned." More...

Stirring... even levitating!

The culmination of last night's penultimate Season Five episode of HBO's "Game Of Thrones" was unequivocally my favorite since the last six minutes of Season One where Daenerys Targaryen declares her lineage and title, steps into her husband's blazing funeral pyre and emerges from the smoldering ashes the following morning, her newly hatched infant dragons: Drogon, Rhaegal and Viserion clinging to her soot-streaked and naked body.

Last evening, the full-grown and enormous Drogon makes a nick-o'time appearance as Daenerys, Tyrion, Daario, Jorah and Missandei are surrounded and about to be slain by an enclosing phalanx of gold-masked Sons of the Harpy, and incinerates, blowtorch-style, those who would harm "The Mother of Dragons." Maria's gone too far this time!

Dune Road

It was bad enough that as her first official act last year Westhampton Beach Mayor Maria Z. Moore effectively doubled her salary, but now this!

Perhaps in observance of being the very first woman elected to the Village's top spot, the municipal road signs are being changed from bright blue and white to pink and white.

June Village Board Meeting

Decent attendance at last evening's monthly Westhampton Beach Village Board meeting, but the damnedest thing... the two wouldbe Trustees, Rob Robio and Bryan Tynann, weren't among them, and to the best of my recollection have yet to put in an appearance at Six Corners other than to file their nominating petitions.

(While driving up Mill Road to attend the meeting, I passed Mr. Rubio headed toward Main Street, walking his dog. Hmmmmn!)

In matters materially more municipal... More...

No, it was not...

...the malevolent forces of the unGodly, minions of the Moore/Palmer Agitprop or Gus Kelly who caused the dreaded 503 and/or 504 error messages on OtBB since early yesterday morning.

'Twas nothing more than a glitch in the server that hosts this blog. All better now... thanks for asking.

And it happened again...

...earlier today, with the same interruption in information flow, but through the good offices of Fluid Imagery, we'rrreee baaack!

A grim irony

In the news:

Woman, 29, mauled to death by lion at safari park was Game of Thrones editor

"Katherine Chappell, a special effects editor working on HBO's "Game of Thrones," died in Johannesburg after being mauled by a lion at a safari park on Monday. Chappell was visiting South Africa in an effort to protect wildlife from poachers."

Ahhhhhhhh, but how are do-gooders to be protected from the wildlfe? (cf: Timothy Treadwell and Amie Huguenard.)

Not an easy task when they insist in being stupid!

Ooooh, so that's why Maria dumped her...

...as Beach Manager for the Village this Summer as we learn from Alexa Gorman's report on 27East:

Mrs. Gristina

"Mr. Johnson is taking over for Kathy Gristina, who is the sister of former Westhampton Beach Police Chief Ray Dean."

That one line encapsulates an important story that few took notice of when it occured this past Winter... Mayor Maria Moore's administration is marching to an undisclosed drumbeat, and The Southampton Press Western Edition is, almost a year after he retired, going to continue sticking it to Ray Dean at every opportunity.
