You want 'sexy' in a video...?

...I submit that nothing approaches Ronnie Spector in 1986's interestingly shot Eddie Money "Take Me Home Tonight" video to which the lead singer of the seminal '60s "girl group" The Ronettes, adds her remarkable voice with a refrain1 from the trio's 1963 #2 hit, "Be My Baby."

(Not as freaky as Tupac Shakur performing "live" as a faux-hologram earlier this month more than 15 years after his death, but eerie... and cool!) More...

Why I continue* to hate Newsday...

...and am of the unalterable opinion that it's a hoo'er who's given up any pretext of journalistic integrity by hiking up its skirt at the prospect of any available passing buck.

This came my way last evening:

The final night for the Nets...

...in New Jersey!

Of course, thay said that once before, 44 years ago, after the inaugural '67-'68 season of the old American Basketball Association, during which the team played at the Teaneck Armory (built 1936) as the New Jersey Americans. More...

Damn'dest thing, II...

The night they lay Levon to rest...

Levon Helm

...this evening, in fact, makes me very sad.

Drummer, mandolin-player, singer and co-founder of one of the greatest bands of the past 50 years, Levon Helm, son of an Arkansas cotton farmer, passed on this afternoon, age 71, at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

(The illness had struck in the worst possible place for the twangy tenor: his throat.) More...

Why I'm down on unions!

In the late '70s through the mid-'90, my battles with Local 640 of the I.A.T.S.E. caused a great deal of uproar with its members and business agent, particularly when I went public with it in the mid-'80s in my OtB columns in the old Hampton Chronicle-News.

The series was entitled "Who's running the show?" and centered not on the high rates theater projectionists were getting paid to sit in a booth while a movie was running, but the execrable way they performed their duties. More...

For the lust for a blonde...

Jessica Dorrell

...a Major College Football Program is, if not lost, then seriously impaired!

The blonde is tall, toothy and morally problematic 25-year-old Jessica Dorrell, a University of Arkansas employee who doubled as sexual consort to 51-year-old Razorback football coach, Bobby Petrino.

That "inappropriate relationship" has cost Petrino his job. More...

Really? Are they freakin' serious?!?

Los Angeles Dodgers

From a release by some idiot in the employ of the Los Angeles Dodgers Press Office, one who is almost certainly still on the sunnier side of 50 years of age!

"Opening Day at Dodger Stadium is Tuesday, April 10 and will launch the club’s season-long celebration of Dodger Stadium's 50th Anniversary. Pregame ceremonies on Opening Day will celebrate the 1962 Los Angeles Dodgers, the first team to ever play at Dodger Stadium...."

'I'm miserable, right?'

Gracie and I have been batching it for the past four days while Jeanne and puppy dog Rosco have been busy upstate tending to an emergency involving her upper octogenarian pater familias.

I was doing fine 'til Saturday evening when I got clobbered by a nasty head cold which knocked the bejabbers outta me. More...

April Village Board Meeting

This was one of the more important meetings of the year so far, as the tentative 2012-2013 Village Budget was unveiled and abstracted to the modestly well-attended public by Westhampton Beach Mayor Conrad Teller.

The most important aspect of the proposed budget was that, with a 1.96% increase over the current one, it did not "pierce" the New York State-mandated 2% Tax Cap.

But as the Mayor cautioned, that number is depend More...

CoBIS no longer the law of this land

While the acronym is almost certainly unfamiliar to any who are not handgun licensees in New York State, CoBIS (Combined Ballistic Identification System) is a procedure required of all new pistol and revolvers entering the state on or after March 1, 2001.

And "all" includes those service sidearms issued to law enforcement department and agencies... police officers don't get a pass on this one! More...

Outright deception is nothing new...

...for NBC News who this weekend was caught using selectively edited portions of George Zimmerman's 911 call immediately prior to his confrontation with Trayvon Martin on February 26th, to make it appear that the volunteer neighborhood watch captain had racially profiled the young black man he was following.

(Not that NBC is alone in lying to its audience; it's disturbingly widespread.)
